I hate to say it but with a score of 550 you will more than likely not get approved anywhere. If you apply for credit here and there and keep getting turned down, it goes on your credit that you are "shopping" for credit. That doesn't look good. Keep working to get that credit score up to about 600. In about another 6 months if you keep paying your bills on time it will happen rather quickly. Once you get to about 600 then apply once or twice to someone like your bank. The bank thing with the cd is a good idea, but you still need OK credit, and to have a good standing with your bank. (meaning no bounced check for a year, overdraw, a savings, things like that help.)
